Friday, March 6, 2020 NCCCS President Visits NCC The president of the North Carolina Community College System, Peter Hans, visited NCC's campus on Thursday, February 27. Dr. Hunnicutt and vice presidents provided a tour of Culinary Arts, Veterinary Medical Technology, Law Enforcement and Brewing. Culinary faculty shared an overview of the classroom space and dessert. Hans saw a demonstration of the VirTra Systems, Inc. law enforcement firearms training simulator in the Center for Advanced Law Enforcement Training located in the Continuing Education and Public Services Building. Following a tour of the renovated Veterinary Medical Technology facility located in Building D, the group went to Rocky Mount Mills where Rocky Mount Mills Development Manager and NCC Foundation Board Member, Evan Covington Chavez, joined them in NCC's Brewing laboratory. Moore Memorial Scholarship Established at NCC The Nash Community College Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the Carl Moore, Jr. Memorial Scholarship. Carl Moore, Jr. was a loving father and humble man gifted with many skills, talents and trades. He was a great help to his community and friends using his skills for the betterment of his community, and to help those in need. This scholarship commemorates his memory and selfless, giving nature so that his legacy may serve as an inspiration for others. Cheryl Hawkins, Nash Community College Continuing Education Registrar, established the scholarship as an annual award to benefit trade students and individuals enrolled in the fire program to honor the service of Moore's son, Rocky Mount Fire Battalion Chief, Carl Moore, III, an instructor in NCC's fire program. Recruit Firefighters Begin Training Nash Community College’s Firefighter Training Academy #030220 welcomed 21 new recruits during orientation Monday, March 2, 2020. During the day, recruits took part in a physical assessment, which included a 1.5-mile run, pushups, sit-ups, grip strength, flexibility, and more. Recruits are being sponsored by the following departments: Rocky Mount Fire Department (14 recruits), Zebulon Fire Department (3 recruits), Youngsville Fire Department (1 recruit), Nashville Fire Department (2 recruits), and Coopers Fire & Rescue (1 recruit). The Firefighter Academy prepares recruits for a fulfilling career in the fire service industry. Its mission is to instill discipline, character, professionalism, teamwork, integrity, credibility, physical ability, knowledge and skills to perform as a firefighter in a safe manner.
