s Chamber announce the 2019 Distinguished Citizen Award Winner Rocky Mount, NC - January 7, 2020 - The Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce's 2019 Distinguished Citizen Award winner is Richard "Ricky" Wayne Parks. The recipient will receive his recognition of the award at the 116th Annual Meeting. Each year The Chamber recognizes a citizen who has demonstrated noteworthy commitment and contribution to the greater Rocky Mount community. He or she has shown consistent dedication to the enhancement of the area's quality of life, promoted and advanced the welfare of all residents, and advanced the well-being of the community while exhibiting unselfish skills and influence of leadership. The Distinguished Citizen Award is presented, based upon confidential nomination and approval of The Chamber's Special Nominating Committee. This prestigious and honored award is bestowed upon one who best exemplifies the name of the award. After receiving numerous nominations, the Chamber's Special Nominating Committee selected Richard "Ricky" Wayne Parks as the recipient of the 2019 Distinguished Citizen Award winner. Ricky began his law enforcement career after finishing BLET at North Carolina Coastal Plains Police Academy in 1987. During the past 30 years, he has worked with the Nash County Sheriff's office as Deputy, Detective and Patrol Sergeant. He earned his rank as the sergeant in the following years and currently serves as the Chief Deputy Marshal of the North Carolina Supreme Court. The people who know Ricky Parks best, know that Rocky Mount, Nash County, Edgecombe County and the State of North Carolina have all benefitted not only from his advancement as a law enforcement professional, but from his commitment to service in many other capacities. He always is there to give a helping hand to several of our organizations such as Jim Dickens First Responders Appreciation Day Committee, Peacemakers Family Center, My Sister's House, Rocky Mount Preparatory School, North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police and many more. His dedication to the principles of service before self, crosses all racial, financial, social and cultural lines. He is committed to be a positive voice in helping others maximize their full potential and achieve their goals. All qualities in which are what the Chamber would like to see in a Distinguished Citizen winner. David Farris, President and CEO stated in announcing Mr. Parks as this year's Distinguished Citizen of the Year, "I am pleased that Ricky was selected for this award. While we received numerous nominations, all deserving, Ricky's service and commitment to his community and state make him an excellent choice and we are proud to honor him with this award." Ricky Parks is married to the former Rebecca Adams and they have 5 children. Genna, Will, Octavia, Benjamin, and Alan, along with their first grandchild Laila May. Ricky will be recognized as the 2019 Distinguished Citizen Award winner at the 116th Annual Meeting. The dinner meeting begins promptly at 6:00 p.m. with a reception at 5:15 p.m. Tickets for the event are $60 per ticket for members $70 for prospective members.
