At every age and every level of activity, you’ll find people just like you looking to live a little bit healthier. Members and program participants often cite the support and enthusiasm of fellow participants and staff as some of the key factors in their achievement of greater well-being. Living healthy is about spirit, mind and body at every age and stage. As part of the Y’s goal to create a healthier community, they are partnering with the Nash County Health Department to launch a new Diabetes Awareness Program monthly series. These two organizations have partnered to offer this program quarterly each year, free to the community. Thanks to funding from the Annual Twin Counties Sugar Run, they now have the opportunity to expand on this program with a session every month. They will now also be able to provide more educational matieres, and still offer this for free to our community. The Twin Counties Sugar Run is hosted by various local health organizations, spear headed by Amanda Bell with Rocky Mount Family Medical Center. The purpose of this run is to increase the education and prevention of diabetes in the Twin Counties. The committee is excited to begin using the funds raised for this beneficial program. IMAGINE AN END TO DIABETES – The Diabetes Awareness Program is taught by Diabetes Lifestyle Coaches and teaches participants the following: MANAGING BLOOD & A1C LEVELS TRACKING FAT AND CALORIE INTAKE PRACTICING HEALTHY EATING MANAGING STRESS EXERCISE, AND MUCH MORE Participants are not required to take the classes in any sequence. Anyone is encouraged to register for any and all classes they are interested in. Registration required by the Friday before each class.
