Crews will begin collecting on the North and South routes of the city. Loose leaves are collected during the months of November and December. Crews will collect leaves on the North route the weeks of Nov. 4, Nov. 18, Dec. 2, Dec. 16 and Dec. 30. The South route will be collected the weeks of Nov. 11, Nov. 25, Dec. 9 and Dec. 23. During the remaining months of the year, residents are required to bag or containerize leaves in clear plastic bags or in a yard waste cart for collection by the Environmental Services Division on their normal day of yard waste collection. During loose leaf collection season, residents are asked to rake their leaves and pine straw into piles approximately two feet behind the curb or approximately two feet away from the edge of the asphalt pavement if no curb exists. Residents are also asked not to place loose leaves and pine straw into the curb and gutter or street. Failure to adhere to this practice can lead to clogged storm drains, ponding water on streets and localized flooding during storms. Please leave plenty of space between leaf piles and vehicles that are parked on the street. Loose leaf piles should be free of trash, sticks, limbs, bottles, cans, animal waste and other debris. This will reduce possible employee injury, damage to collection equipment and allow the leaves and pine straw to be processed into clean mulch and compost. Collection crews will not collect loose leaves if trash and other debris are present. To provide efficient collection, residents are asked to have leaves and pine straw placed neatly for collection by 7 a.m. on the Monday morning of their collection week. Crews will pass by each house only once, depending on leaf volume and not necessarily on the resident's regular solid waste collection day.
