RMPD to celebrate National Night Out and Crime Prevention Month Rocky Mount, N.C. -- National Night Out will return to Rocky Mount for a 23rd consecutive year, with the 2019 version being observed Oct. 1. 2 The event typically takes place in all 50 states during the first Tuesday in August, but locally this year, the Rocky Mount Police Department will recognize National Night Out as a kick-off to Crime Prevention Month. National Night Out annually brings together Rocky Mount communities to build and strengthen relationships with one another and local law enforcement. This year’s event will once again include neighborhood block parties, cookouts and more. Rocky Mount Police Department members will discuss crime and drug prevention at various locations. Neighborhoods interested in signing up to participate in National Night Out should contact Rocky Mount Police Department Community Service Manager Yvette Jones at 972-1436. Ideas also can be brought to the upcoming Planning Board meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 13 at the Frederick E. Turnage Municipal Building. The deadline to apply is Sept. 13. "We look forward to celebrating National Night Out and Crime Prevention Month with members of the community," Jones said. "These relationships are vital in our commitment to making Rocky Mount a safe place for residents and those who visit."
