July 21, 2022 Foundation Announces Owens-Latham Endowment The Nash Community College Foundation has announced the establishment of a new endowed scholarship by two longtime college employees who will soon be retiring. The Owens-Latham Endowment, created by David Michael "Mike" Latham, Vice President of Student Services and his wife, Robin Owens Latham, English Professor, serves as a permanent legacy to the Latham family's long tradition of support of the endeavors of Nash Community College. The Lathams have established five scholarships during their careers at the college. These include the Louise and David Latham Memorial Scholarship, the Annette Poirier Wolfe Memorial Scholarship, the Gilbert and Kathleen Snell Memorial Scholarship, the Billie Pate Memorial Scholarship and the Latham Family South Rocky Mount Scholarship. The endowment will ensure the perpetual funding of these scholarships. "It has long been our plan to set up an endowment upon retirement so that our scholarships will live on," Mike Latham said. Mike will retire in October 2022 and Robin will retire in December 2022. Full Story. Vet Tech Program Hosts Guest Speaker Students in Nash Community College’s Veterinary Medical Technology degree program had a visit from guest speaker, Dr. Allen Cannedy, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. Dr. Cannedy is the Director of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He also owns Small Ruminant and Camelid Mobile Veterinary Services in Hillsborough, NC. Dr. Cannedy shared information about diversity in veterinary medicine with VET 125 Veterinary Diseases students. Full Story. Students Learn Techniques to Assist Patients Stephen Tart’s Intro to Rehabilitation class has been studying cardiovascular, pulmonary and integumentary conditions as well as causes and treatment of amputations. Recently these students learned about different types of prosthetics and how to properly wrap amputations. The students are working toward a Physical Therapist Assistant degree.
