News from Edgecombe Community College April 1, 2021 ECC named Military Friendly College For the second year in a row, Edgecombe Community College has been designated a 2021 Military Friendly College by Intelligent.com, a resource for online degree rankings and higher education planning. Intelligent.com conferred the designation on 49 colleges nationwide. The only other North Carolina school that received the distinction is the University of North Carolina Wilmington. ECC was ranked #20 and listed as Best for Associate Degrees. READ ARTICLE Student honor society wins awards ECC’s student honor society won nine awards at the recent virtual awards ceremony held by the Phi Theta Kappa Carolinas Region. The virtual awards ceremony was held March 12-13. ECC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Alpha Omega Nu, received six chapter awards and three individual awards. “Bringing home nine awards is an awesome accomplishment during such a challenging year due to the pandemic,” says Tamara Frank-Pourvady, chapter advisor. “The officers and active members worked very hard in the fall to complete a year’s worth of work in four months. Also, we were pleased to have our college president, Dr. Greg McLeod, join us for the virtual awards banquet this year.” READ ARTICLE Construction Academy students building class project Students enrolled in the current Construction Academy are constructing a storage building for their class project. The 8' x 12' structure will have vinyl siding and will be available for sale when the class ends in June. The next Construction Academy begins in August. Recent BLET grads all working as officers Congratulations to Mikeal “Shaun” Clark, a recent graduate of the 9th Basic Academy of Basic Law Enforcement Training at ECC. He took his oath of office recently to become the newest member of the Robersonville Police Department. Shown right is Lieutenant Chad Terry of the Robersonville PD. Officer Clark's Basic Academy graduated in January, and with his official swearing-in ceremony, 100 percent of the 9th Basic Academy graduates are now employed as law enforcement officers. The next Academy will begin June 14. Renovations are under way on the Tarboro campus for Basic Law Enforcement Training at ECC. Student honor society wins awards
