Healthy Food Access

Farmers, community aid organizations, local governments and other partners around the region need your input. There is a Healthy Food Access effort underway to better understand your family and community needs regarding food. The project goal is to identify needs and opportunities for increasing access to healthy, local food in the Edgecombe, Halifax, Nash, Northampton and Wilson counties. We want to hear from you! It only takes a few minutes to make a big impact. The objective of this program is to teach both youth and young adults the art of beekeeping and educate them on the importance of honeybees to the environment and food supply. Home Food Preservation Classes

This year we will have 5 Home Food Preservation Classes and you can come to all of them or pick the ones you prefer to attend. All classes will be offered at two different times, a morning program from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon and an evening class from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm - simply pick the time that is most convenient to you. Classes include Introduction to Canning, Canning Sweet Spreads, Fermentation, Boiling Water Canning and Pressure Canning. These classes will be hands-on - meaning you can participate at home.
