A Newsletter for Alumni and Friends of North Carolina Wesleyan College Wesleyan Society Members Celebrated At Gala North Carolina Wesleyan College paid tribute to over 75 Wesleyan Society members at the Wesleyan Society Gala held February 28. Greeted by Wesleyan students, guests enjoyed carving stations, hors d'oeuvres and music by the Durham Jazz Renaissance Foundation. Loyalty Clock awards were presented to donors who have supported North Carolina Wesleyan College at the Wesleyan Society level (an annual gift of $1,000 or more) for at least five consecutive years. The "These Are They" award, a new award this year, honors those donors who have supported the College for many years, not only sacrificing their time, but more importantly their resources. They have experienced the most challenging times of Wesleyan, and still remained loyal supporters and advocates to assist in helping Wesleyan move forward. Hartness, a Rocky Mount dentist and member of the NC Wesleyan Board of Trustees, and his family, the building which originally supplied heat to the College was converted into a student center named in memory of Dr. Hartness' parents, Rufus and Patsy Hartness. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held October 23, 1997. On February 27, 2019 a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Hartness Student Center to celebrate new renovations made to the Center to better accommodate a growing student body and newer technology. Improvements made include redesigning the ground level to encompass dynamic meeting areas, building a second floor which houses offices and creating a multi-purpose student lounge to accommodate both academic and entertainment needs. Dr. Hartness' advice to the crowd of students, staff, friends and family in attendance was to ensure you leave a legacy in this world, to make a difference--find a cause bigger than yourself and give it your all! Dr. Hartness has definitely given his all to North Carolina Wesleyan College.
