Friday, February 15, 2019 Area School Counselors Tour NCC NCC welcomed area school counselors to its Counselors' Open House held Tuesday, February 12. The event provided an opportunity for counselors to learn more about NCC as college officials shared updates with school staff and thanked them for the role they play in helping students plan for a successful future. Attendees toured new areas including the Aseptic Clean Room, Law Enforcement Simulator, Advanced Manufacturing Building, Cosmetology, Student and Enrollment Services, the Library, Advising Center, Midway Cafe, Student Wellness Center, Campus Store, English Studio and Math Tank. Students Plan for Transfer Students learned about transfer opportunities Tuesday, February 12 when representatives from North Carolina Wesleyan College (NCWC) visited campus to answer questions and provide guidance. Many students took advantage of the opportunity to learn about the transfer options between NCC and North Carolina Wesleyan College. Representatives from North Carolina Wesleyan College will be back on the NCC campus from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM in the Midway Cafe area on the following dates: February 28, March 11, March 14, March 20, April 9, and April 10. Global Scholars Host Film Series Nash Community College’s Global Scholars Program kicked off its Spring Semester Global Events this week with the “Conflicts and Casualties – Syria” Film Series. Students, faculty and staff viewed “Can't Do Nothing: Refugees in Lesbos” a short film in which Verizon actress Milana Vayntrub shares her "can't do nothing" mission to raise awareness and humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees. “White Helmets” was also shown. The short documentary highlights a group of unflinching first responders who risk their lives to rescue victims from the rubble as daily airstrikes pound civilian targets in Syria. Students in Nash Community College’s Global Scholars Program are developing global competencies and skills needed to be successful in today’s economy. Now in its third year, through scholarship and experiential learning, the program focuses on instilling what it means to be a global citizen and how students can apply this knowledge to their academic and professional endeavors. Upon completion of all program requirements, NCC students earn the identification of “Global Scholar” on their NCC transcript and receive special regalia to wear at commencement exercises. The Global Scholars Program is a collaboration between NCC and UNC World View. Valentine's Day Celebration Students, faculty, and staff celebrated Valentine's Day Thursday at a social and spaghetti luncheon hosted by the Student Government Association. A candy buffet, create-a-critter, and raffle prizes were among the fun activities. Students also enjoyed a screening of the Disney classic "Lady and the Tramp" while they ate lunch. The annual event was again a big hit with students who lined up early to participate and had time to fellowship with classmates. © 2019 Nash Community College
