Eastern North Carolina Alliance (ENCCA) 2019 Career Fair Scheduled February 20 The Ea stern North Carolina Career Alliance (ENCCA) 2019 Career Fair will be held at t he McKimmon Center in Raleigh, NC on Wednesday, February 20 , 2019 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This Career Fa ir is sp eci fically for students and alumni from the following institutions: Barton College, Ca mpbell University, Meredith C olle ge, Methodist University, North Carolina Wesleyan College, Saint Augustine's University, Shaw University, The University of Mount Olive, and William Peace University. There are currently 77 employers and schools that will be there recruiting. This event is for students seeking full-time employment and/or graduate school as well as for general career-related information, and internships and alumni seeking positions or information. For additional information, please visit the Career Fair site at https://www.collegecentral.com/enccacareerfair/ Wesleyan Gives Back Community service is an important part of the culture at NC Wesleyan for students, faculty and staff. Bishops started off 2019 actively involved in many area events giving back to the community. The NC Wesleyan women's lacrosse, women's soccer and volleyball teams volunteered their time Friday night, February 8 at "Night to Shine" at Englewood Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. "Night to Shine" is a worldwide event sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation during which people ages 14 and above with special needs get to enjoy red-carpet treatment in a festive atmosphere. Over 150 Wesleyan College students participated in the MLK Day of Service on January 21. Volunteers engaged in community service at several non-profit sites in the Rocky Mount area including Habitat for Humanity, Keep America Beautiful, Meals on Wheels, and Peacemakers. The NCWC Women's Basketball tea m took t ime o ut of thei r busy schedule to volunteer their time and even shoot some hoops with the kids from Baskerville Elementary School in Rocky Mount. Some of the students and teachers from Baskerville attended the Women's Basketball Elementary School Appreciation Day held January 26 and won the prize for the school with the most kids in attendance. The Bishop women enjoyed returning the favor. Tea Anyone? Come enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the beautiful Bellemonte House parlor with your friends. Sip a little tea, share some conversations and enjoy sweet and savory treats. You can even take a tour of the historic Bellemonte House built in 1817 and recently restored to its original design.. The Bellemonte House, located on the campus of NC Wesleyan College, is pleased to offer afternoon tea at 2:00 pm the second Tuesday and Saturday of each month. Minimum parties of four with a maximum of sixteen. Reservations are required. Cost is $20 per person and includes sweet and savory treats as well as two types of tea. Standing as a tribute to the dedication and service of one who was a founder and trustee of the college in its early years, the chapel will be completed by Fall Term 1983. This new facility includes a space adaptable to a variety of worship settings, a reception room, an office for the campus minister, and the Rena Perry Blackburn Prayer Room. Sliding glass panels open to a courtyard bordered by a pierced brick wall." "Standing apart from other campus buildings, the chapel will be the outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace earnestly desired and sought as qualities of campus life." Alumni Class Notes Charles R. Davis ('88) was recently presented the Clyde King Excellence in Coaching Award by Wilson Hot Stove League. A 1988 graduate of NC Wesleyan, Davis began his coaching career as Mike Fox's assistant at Wesleyan for two years. He retired in 2017 after a 27-year career at Charles B. Aycock High School in Pikeville, NC where he was head baseball coach and athletic director. Davis has also been enshrined into the University of Mount Olive and George Whitfield halls of fame. Davis is married and has two children. Ryland L. Harrelson ('75) has been named Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO), Administrative Services at TSYS, a leading global payments provider with headquarters located in Columbus, GA. As the senior executive leading TSYS Administrative Services, Harrelson has responsibility for global Human Resources, Corporate Real Estate, Corporate Marketing and Culture, and Diversity and Inclusion. In addition, Harrelson serves as the Chief Ethics Officer for TSYS. He earned a bachelor's degree from NC Wesleyan in 1975. Sherry Archibald ('06) has been named executive director of the United Way of Wayne County effective March 11, 2019. Sherry has been the director of the Paramount Theatre and Goldsboro Event Center for the past eleven years. She obtained a bachelor of science degree in business administration and a bachelor of arts in psychology in 2006 from NC Wesleyan's Goldsboro campus. She received the Advocate of the Year award by the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. in 2007, the North Carolina Main Street Champion Award in 2008 and the Distinguished Service Award from the Goldsboro Jaycees in 2010. She has served on boards for Injoy Thrift Stores, United Way of Wayne, NC, Presenters Consortium and Paramount Theatre Foundation. Sherry was also Junior Leadership council chair for Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and on the task force committee for the National Day of Prayer Wayne County. Sarah Bowyer ('18) has joined the Suffolk, VA Sheriff's Office and will be working in administration. Sarah is a Suffolk native and an honors graduate of Lakeland High School. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Carolina Wesleyan College in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. Sarah was the 2016-2017 President of the Taylor-Crocker Honors Program, a member of several honor societies, including Alpha Phi Sigma (National Criminal Justice Honor Society), and a 4-year starter of N.C. Wesleyan's Softball Team earning the Scholar-Athlete Award in both 2015-2016 & 2017-2018. Sarah also earned the 2017-2018 Innovative Security Program of the Year Award for N.C. Wesleyan, in which she developed a security/safety guide that has been posted in all campus buildings. Dr. Dewey G. Clark ('82) was honored February 7 at the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce's 115th Annual Meeting at Nash Community College for his service as Chairman of the Chamber the past year (2018-2019). Dr. Clark earned his bachelor's degree in business administration and history from Wesleyan in 1982. He earned his master's degree in business administration from Campbell University, and earned his doctorate in management from Argosy University. He became the seventh President of NC Wesleyan College May 4, 2014. Dwayne D. Hollis '12 recently made his debut for the Atlanta Legends of the brand new Alliance of American Football (AAF), which serves as a type of developmental league for the NFL. Hollis, a defensive back for the Legends, played football for the Battling Bishops from 2009 to 2012. As a sophomore, Hollis was named First Team All-USA South Athletic Conference as a Defensive Back. As a junior and senior, Hollis was named First Team All-USA South Athletic Conference as both a kick returner and as a defensive back. Hollis was also named an All-American at defensive back by the American Football Coaches Association. He graduated from NCWC in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies. Hollis played for the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League from 2015-2017 as a kick returner and defensive back. Brad Melton '18 of Ayden, NC passed away on December 11, 2018 at the age of 47. Brad was a police officer with the Ayden Police Department for 18 years. He mentored many kids and was known to the Ayden kids as Officer Mustache. He was proud of graduating from NC Wesleyan College, Cum Laude in December 2018 with a BS in Criminal Justice. He was a member of Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society and was enrolled in the Master of Science in Criminal Justice program at Wesleyan. He is survived by one daughter, his mother and step father, one brother, one nephew and several nieces. Andrew "Drew" Wayne Harrell '70 passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the age of 74. He loved Boy Scouts and earned his Eagle Scout award and the Order of the Arrow. He received many honors in his high school years, served in the US Air Force, returning to graduate Cum Laude from NC Wesleyan College in 1970 with a degree in Economics. Drew began his career in marketing at Hardee's Food Systems, becoming an entrepreneur when he and his wife, Theresa, founded Consumer Concepts, Inc. After a lengthy time in business in Rocky Mount, he and Theresa moved to Morehead City, eventually selling the business and starting another venture A. Harrell and Associates, Inc. building custom homes along the Crystal Coast. His philosophy was "there is little difference between a promotional product and a custom home, you were simply building a product to make your customer happy". He is survived by his wife, two children and three grandchildren. Grover Randall "Randy" Hull '81 of Nashville, NC passed away Monday, February 4, 2019 at the age of 61. Randy was a loving husband, father and PaPa. He was a devoted member and leader at Salem Baptist Church and was a dedicated hardworking man. Randy served as SFC in the US Army. He was also a member of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department. He graduated from NC Wesleyan in 1981 with a degree in Business Administration. He is survived by his father, wife, two daughters, one sister, a granddaughter and two step-grandchildren.
