The Y believes in developing the whole child and incorporating the character values of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility into all Y programs. Starting at a young age will help instill the value of a healthy lifestyle. That is why the Harrison Family YMCA launched their toddler sports program last year, titled the Tots Play Program. The Tots Play Program is a sports instructional program that is created specifically for all children ages two to four years old. Each weekly lesson is designed with age appropriate skill level and developmental growth. The curriculum will also include many unique and fun activities to capture their attention and develop their love and excitement for various sports and activities. It also fosters a routine centered on an active lifestyle, which will help them develop that lifestyle for the future. This program has sessions throughout the year including basketball, variety sports, soccer, and tee ball. The upcoming session is indoor soccer beginning on January 29th, at the YMCA. Because the tots program took off so well, the YMCA launched a progression from that for ages five through six, titled Rookie Sports. It is an instructional program, teaching sport related skills and how to transition those skills into game situations and team play. There are also seasonal sessions throughout the year including basketball, soccer, and tee ball. The upcoming session for Rookie Sports is also indoor soccer, which begins on January 8th. Anyone may register online at harrisonfamilyY.org or at the YMCA located on 1000 Independence Drive in Rocky Mount. Please register in advance of two weeks before the start date of each session so that staff can properly plan. Fees range from $35 to $55 per session. Financial assistance is available to those who apply and qualify. Annual campaign funds are raised each year to help provide this benefit to our community. For more information about these programs and how to get involved, contact our Youth Development Director, Adam Crider at 252-972-9622 x227 or acrider@rmymca.org.
