December 3, 2018 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Dr. Patricia Hollingsworth Chief Communications Officer Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools pdhollingsworth@nrms.k12.nc.us Schools Honored for Meeting and Exceeding Academic Growth Nashville, NC – A total of 7 schools in the Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools (NRMPS) district were honored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) for meeting academic growth during the 2017-2018 school year, while four schools were honored for exceeding growth. Each school was issued a certificate from the NCDPI that was signed by state Superintendent Mark Johnson. Additionally, Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School (NRM-ECHS) was also issued a certificate for having a 95.6% graduation rate for the 2017-2018 academic year. Coopers Elementary, Red Oak Middle, Southern Nash Middle and Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School were issued certificates for exceeding academic growth for the 2017-2018 school year. The following schools were honored with certificates from the NCDPI for meeting academic growth during the 2017-2018 school year: Bailey Elementary, Baskerville Elementary, Cedar Grove Elementary, D. S. Johnson Elementary, M. B. Hubbard Elementary, Middlesex Elementary and J. W. Parker Middle. Superintendent Dr. Shelton Jefferies was excited about the recognitions. “Our students, staff and administrators have worked hard to gain such an awesome recognition that has led to academic success,” he stated. All of the schools were honored during the December 3, 2018 Board of Education Meeting that was held in the Black Box Theatre at Rocky Mount High School. Principals from each school accepted their certificate during the recognition portion of the meeting and took a photo with Superintendent Dr. Shelton Jefferies and Board Chair Ann Edge. The recognition was also highlighted in the NRMPS Sounding Board digital newsletter that is posted on the district website and social media pages.
