Media Contact: Tameka Kenan-Norman Chief Communications and Marketing Officer (252)972-1333 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 10, 2018 Reservoir gates lowered due to expected rainfall Rocky Mount, N.C.-Due to expected heavy rainfall attributed to Hurricane Michael, the gates of the Tar River Reservoir Water Supply Dam were partially lowered Tuesday morning, Oct. 9, 2018. The lowering is expected to cause the Tar River Water Supply reservoir level to drop to 122 feet by late Wednesday evening, which is three feet below full pool, or the water level of the reservoir at normal operating conditions. This reduction of the water level in the reservoir will hopefully minimize the potential impact of any increased flows along the Tar River due to heavy rainfall in the Tar River basin upstream of the Tar River Water Supply Reservoir. Currently, the river level at the Atlantic Avenue Station is more than 10 feet below flood stage. For more information, please call 252-972-1336. To monitor river levels, visit www.rockymountnc.gov.
