From returning favorites to the ever-popular art camps, the summer season promises something for everyone under the sun. Family Sundays and Handbuilding in Clay both return for the summer lineup. Family Sundays aim to engage families who visit the Imperial Centre on Sundays. Every other Sunday from June 10 to Aug. 19, visitors will have an opportunity to take part in artmaking activities such as sketching. Visitors may also enjoy a self-guided tour. Family Sundays are free and occur from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Helping participants explore the techniques of creating functional and sculptural forms, Handbuilding in Clay will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. June 28 to July 19. The program will also be held July 26 to Aug. 30 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Another returning favorite is the opportunity to interact with and hear from an artist during Lunch and Learn. Margaret Morrison will be the featured artist on Friday, June 8 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Other programs include Make Art: Drop-in Workshops, a free workshop every other Saturday held June 16 to Aug. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Portrait Painting and much more. The cost varies depending on the activity. “We are very excited to welcome our community to experience the arts this summer! Each program is led by a member of our professional artist team and is an opportunity for all to experiment with mediums and techniques,” said Tracy Grosner, arts education manager for the city of Rocky Mount. “From six-week classes to a single workshop, there is something for everyone at the Imperial Centre!” Art Camps begin the week of July 9 and conclude the week of Aug. 6. Topics for the week-long camps include Intro to Art, Comic Illustrations, Painting, Drawing and much more! Age of the camper, time and date as well as cost depends on the camp.
