Citizens Academy, coordinated by city employee Loretta Braswell, introduces participants to city government. “Those enrolled in Citizens Academy will learn how government operates,” says Braswell. “This learning will be in the form of presentations from all of our departments, as well as tours.” Attendees can expect tours of the water treatment plant and various other city facilities, along with learning about the inner workings of the different city departments. “This program is a great way for citizens to become spokespersons or ambassadors for Rocky Mount. It could also provide an opportunity for you to become prepared for ultimate membership on our boards and commissions,” states Braswell. Citizens Academy will take place Thursday, March 1, 2018 to Thursday, May 3, 2018. Classes will be held Thursdays only from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Participants will have a graduation at the Booker T.
