Perhaps they're already overgrown and crowded. To keep plants vigorous and blooming, a technique known as 'Division' can be performed. Dividing perennial plants will help give your garden a more vibrant appearance. Visit the Master Gardener booth at the Farmers Market from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm and learn, from the "masters" of gardening, when and how to divide various perennials, rejuvenate and propagate new plants.
