The crest depth and time have changed to 26.8 ft. at the Atlantic Avenue gauge. We are currently at 25.26 ft. Major flood stage at this location is at 25 ft. Floodwaters are still expected to be lower than what was experienced during Hurricane Matthew. However, all property owners who were impacted by Hurricane Matthew are still asked to monitor the situation closely. Projected numbers may change again, so residents in low lying areas are asked to monitor those numbers by accessing the NOAA website link at www.rockymountnc.gov. The city should be out of moderate flood levels by Friday morning. As of April 26 at 9 a.m., the city’s Public Works and Water Resources Department has announced nearly 20 street closures. Rocky Mount’s Special Emergency Response Team has performed approximately 16 rescues. Currently, the Civic Center, located at 500 Davis Rd. in Tarboro, has opened as a shelter.
