Click here Friday, February 17, 2017 SCHOOL COUNSELORS VISIT NCC Nash Community College hosted area school counselors at the annual Counselors' Breakfast held Tuesday, February 7. The event provides an opportunity for college officials to share updates with school staff and to thank counselors for the role they play in helping students plan for a successful future. NCC President Dr. Bill Carver and Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Shelton Jefferies both spoke of the strong partnership between the college and the school system. {Read more...} AMERICAN WELDING SOCIETY TRIANGLE MEETING HOSTED BY NCC Nash Community College recently hosted its first American Welding Society Triangle Section meeting of 2017. Stewart Harris, District 4 Director of the American Welding Society was present to explain the many welding scholarships available through AWS and the benefits of student membership. Jay Manning, AWS Section Chairman and NCC Instructor gave a tour and overview of NCC's award-winning welding program. MUSEUM CURATOR PRESENTS RESEARCH As part of the Diversity Month events at Nash Community College, Earl Ijames, Curator for North Carolina Museum of History presented "Colored Confederates" for NCC students, faculty and staff. The film is a culmination of Ijames' research project documenting the roles of enslaved and free people of color who served in various capacities in the Confederacy and the Confederate Army. Using primary and genealogical sources, the presentation conveys the significance of Confederates of Color before the Emancipation Proclamation and after the creation of the United States Colored Troops. The project led to the first monument in American history in honor of Confederates of Color. AMERICAN WELDING SOCIETY TRIANGLE MEETING HOSTED BY NCC
