City also announces additional crime reductions for 2016 Rocky Mount, N.C.-During the Rocky Mount City Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting held today, the Rocky Mount Police Department revealed the most recent crime statistics from 2016. The department reported that in 2016, the city experienced the lowest number of Part 1 Crimes in 39 years! Part 1 Crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson. According to Police Chief James Moore, there were other successes in 2016, including a nine percent reduction in property crime, a three percent decrease in violent crime and an eight percent overall reduction in Part 1 Crime. Last year, the city also experienced the lowest number of violent crime incidents since 1989 and had the lowest property crime occurrences within the last 40 years. The crime reduction in 2016 now means that the overall crime rate has declined for five consecutive years, the longest continuous drop on record. “I am encouraged by these reductions in crime, demonstrating an ongoing partnership between the community and the men and women of the Rocky Mount Police Department,” says Moore. “Although these reductions are significant, we are working diligently to continue to make improvements to the quality of life for all citizens in the city of Rocky Mount.”

Rocky Mount, N.C.-During the Rocky Mount City Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting held today, the Rocky Mount Police Department revealed the most recent crime statistics from 2016. The department reported that in 2016, the city experienced the lowest number of Part 1 Crimes in 39 years! Part 1 Crimes include homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson.
